Whites and Uniforms

I have worn all white outfits before. My memory draws a proactive succession off all-white attires, which only and only were associated with school and college uniforms. Blame it on age (and yes just age), white uniform in school used to cheer me up. We were supposed to wear it every Wednesday and during school days a little sartorial variation was enough. Atleast, enough to tell me that fashion holds my real self and happiness. Plus it used to make me feel that white makes my skin glow with a wonderful peach-y tint.

Enter college. My sartorial senses added and style options multiplied. I began to recognize the basic premises of outfits - what makes you glow is the color that suits you, variations in the outfit textures can do wonders for your body shape, heels can be my best friend, accessories and clothes need to work in tandem and studying in an all girls college has been my greatest bet till date. During college, white began to be associated with college uniform (to be worn on Monday's), the day of reminded regulations, the day you wouldn't want to go "hang out" after college hours and the day when an exam fell on a Monday. Basically, talk of white and I'll say I have been there, done that!!
Being a style blogger (and an up-keeper of trends), I know I should have accessorized with Tan and followed the grail that Gold and Silver accents pop even more against the white canvas. I remember wearing white corduroy pants with a white knitted top and white (and black) flats to college...I am sure my uniform now can include that dash of color...maybe much within the regulations!!

MINT

I know you are having the been.there.done.that moment. But don't worry I shall not be creating a board of how this flirty shade of green and turquoise, has experienced a rip-roaring resurgence and has come out to fill the fashion magazines, blogs and our closets with all things MINT - be that clothing, accessories, makeup or nail varnishes. Though once reserved for the outdated, blasé bathroom tiles, sartorially speaking mint green was and continues to be a great hit this season.

Despite being such a soft and pretty color, mint green can look disastrous if not worn in the right way. Here are my suggestions on how to incorporate this roar gracefully into your outfits.

1. Mint is amazing in itself, or it can be matched with other shades from the pastel palette like powdery pinks, peach, beige, lavender, pale turquoise, white and other ice-creme hues.

2.If you are choosing to wear mint with delicate pastels, color blocking is a good idea. So choose a pastel shade and play with these colors.

3. If you are feeling that your mint statement in the outfit (like the dress is my mint statement in the outfit) is overload, balance the mint with eye-popping shades like yellow, orange or green. I kept it safe by wearing a darker shade of green. For better results, choose these eye-popping shades in small doses.

4. Mint colored jeans are everywhere. They can look very trendy in combination with a neutral solid top or a printed blouse. Personally, I feel that you can never go wrong pairing your mint pants with a white blouse.

5. Double the mint. Mint on mint can look really lovely, so try matching two mint shades with each other.

6. I also feel that a color that looks amazing with mint and flatters all skin tones is navy. Go out and give it a try :)

7. Mint and black is also a combination that never fails. If you are looking for an option in formal dresses skip picking black for mint. It is a buy you won't regret. Try balancing mint with black pieces like a belt, statement necklace or earrings for that crisp, formal look.

8. For a monotone look, wear your mint with metallic accessories. While, gold balances the coolness of mint and adds warmth to it, silver revitalizes its freshness.

9. If you are not keen on trying an all mint look, pick up smaller pieces to incorporate this candy hue into your outfit. I suggest sunglasses, mint flats or heels, watch, a mint green scarf, belt, jewelry pieces or a hat.

10. If still, less is your mantra mint nails are worth trying. That's a great trick to nail down the mint green trend and convince others in your fashion awareness.

I hope you find these tips useful and are on for a mint-party!!

The Chronicles of Color

What crosses your mind when you hear Black and White? Well I would say Black and White movies or the Audrey Hepburn poster in my room in her iconic Givenchy from Breakfast at Tiffany's. (I read on a blog that mentioning Audrey Hepburn or Coco Chanel by a style blogger is so cliché but whatever, honestly is the best I can given you). What crosses your mind when you see Black and White outfits? Well I would say outfits that are so effortlessly stylish and classic. The someone who phrased "opposites attract" was so very right (and wise). These two colors are the spectrum extremes, yet each time you pair them together they look so elegant, crisp and strong. Its that instance when your outfit speaks for you.
More than often, I have ended up pairing Black and White as my to.fall.back.upon resorts. These are the dependable ones.

This skirt sadly hasn't got many chances to be adorned. I was always skeptical about it, considering it was stripped which made it a little difficult to be paired with just any blouse - something which I believe is the 'utility' aspect of a skirt. With this outfit, I wanted to keep the color palette basic and mix two abstract prints together. The lesson I have learnt in amateur print mixing is to keep the color genre same/similar. This not only keeps the individuality of the piece intact but also is a safe bet for starters. But way wild is definitely on my cards.
Way before I started blogging, I had been accessorizing this blouse with turquoise accessories. With this post, I knew ITS TIME.
This post is also my entry for the InDIAN FASHION BLOGGERS - InFB Black and White remix challenge. It would be so exciting to see bloggers from around the world share their Black and White outfit ideas. Looking forward to this thriving learning experience :D
